Taught first lesson...ish

So today I taught my first lesson sort of. I taught a block (first block) (45 mins) of test prep for the NECAP, which they will be taking next week. My topic is Data Statistics and Probability. So i have been feeling under the weather, and i left early to go rest up for the big day yesterday. I woke up and thought I MUST take medicine now to insure I won't want to cry when i teach my lesson. Well I took an alieve, and a zyrtec. Well i got to school feeling good, and the moment i was to start teaching i felt light headed. I don't know if it was the meds, or the nerves, or a combo of both, but all i could think was oh no here we go.

So i started with 2 collumn notes and went over definitions and examples for mean, median, mode, range, and probabilty, and the had them start a packet of released questions form last year.

Besides my crazy light head, I think I did pretty well. Students were engagged, and students were answering and asking questions! Even that one kid i wanted to strangle! (later on he told me I am a good teacher) Overall it was a success, and I hope tomorrow will go the same with out the crazy light head.

For the NECAP testing i sut found out the they assigned me someone whom i have to read the test outloud to. Way to just put all this weight on my sholders...as if i dont have enough...as a student teacher. YIKES! side note....my school didnt make ayp last year, and that is why they are starting this initive and modifications.

On another note, I started cutting my fat quarters that will make the blocks in my first quilt ever! Here are a few pictures:

I have only been cutting two fat quarters a day becasue its a lot fo cutting and im trying to be as precise as i can be, and im sad becasue i have work today and i had a staff meeting so i wont have time to cut two today. But hopefully by mid next week i will start sweing together my blocks!

Goodbye 6 hour class, hello full time student teaching

So Tomorrow I will start being in the school full time. No more traveling to Plymouth for a long class 3 days a week. Although I do have a seminar to go to on Oct. 16th. I'm going to miss pow-wowing in Tonia's room on the mattress. It was pretty comfortable there, and I felt like I was in the 6th grade again....oh wait.. I kind of am... Here is a picture of my set up I had at Langdon with Tonia:

It was pretty awesome! I cant wait to visit you again bed in october.

As for teaching... I am pretty terrified actually. I had to cover my teachers Lunch last thursday and friday, and trying to communicate and get the kids attention was pretty tough...especially one in particular.. but I won't touch on that.

She wants me to take over her everything! advisory, lunch, and 9th block...the dreaded 9th block. I'm not scared about teaching these children in the academic aspect...but when it comes to non academic focused blocks...boy am I scared.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to take over her lunch block...lets see how that goes...YIKES!

On another note I had a pretty good weekend. Garrett came by on Friday and surprised me...Kinda with the new Owl City CD. It is so super awesome I love it. (thank you G-man)
I watched a pretty awesome movie called Sex Drive, everyone should see it, it it pretty hilarious!

Saturday was work, and it was hectic, a co-worker was really sick so we were short 1 person, so i just had to work my butt off and stay a little later then normal. After work we went with some friends to celebrate colie's 21st birthday (which was friday) we went to the bowling alley and played arcade games. We are working on a way to win a xbox with tickets.
As for today, My babe and I just kinda hung out, played with kitties, and goofed off while putting pellets in his basement....I love weekends.

I'm going to try and at least get my quilt fabric cut and ready for putting the squares together. I'm also going to try and make garrett a sweet Halloween costume..but i can't say what it is..he might get mad.

Well I better get to bed if i plan on getting up early tomorrow and starting my new workout...haha....

The Amy Butler business card holder..

So I tried out Amy Butlers free pattern for a buisness/credit card holder, and my first attempt was a failure. The interfacing I used first was too thick so it wouldn't fold down and stay together, the second one I did came out better, but i still think with nothing in it it dons't look right, but once you get your cards in there it looks great. Here are a few pictures of the better one:

Well I'm going to be late for work...so gotta jet!

Keepsake Quilting adventure

So yesterday I decided I wanted to go to a quilting store that Lauren told me about. It's called keepsake quilting and its only about 20-30 minutes away from plymouth..so I thought why the heck not. I loaded up my car with myself Cassie and Angela and we headed on our way. When we got there I was very excited. There was so much fabric, and patterns i have never seen before...a nice change from Joann's.... I had a pattern in mind that i wanted to make, i found it free on amy butler's website..its a cute business card holder or credit card holder. I thought that this would be the perfect project for fabrics in this store, becasue it calls for little yardage, and everything in there was pretty expensive!

That is the front of the store. So i was overwhelmed with all the fabrics!

There were a few frabrics that I really liked and i was going to get both of them but then i decided that i could always come back! so here is what i got:

The blue and the one with it, it was im going to make the credit card holder out of, The two rolled up fat quarters were on sale, so i bought them. then the fat quarter bellow was an impulse buy, they were folding them at the counter to put them out and i tottlay wanted it so i got it, i think that it could also possibly go with the other pattern!...hmm...choices..

Here is the other fabric i liked a lot

Its the one thats sort of pulled out in the middle, right above my wod middle in this sentence!

So overall i had an awesome time, and will defintly go back for more!

This is me and angela with our purchases!

YAY THANKS LAUREN!

Reconnecting....

I just thought I would put this out there....Sometimes you don't realize how much a person means to you untill you no longer see them everyday and talk to them.... Tonight i reconnected with my friend Sarah, and just talking to her makes me feel bad about not making a better connection with her before.

I Miss you Sarah!
I think everyone should reconnect with someone...it feels really good!

Oh and kinda off topic here is my pen/pencil box in my classroom!

Some Random things, now that i can post pictures on my blog....

So the other day when it was Cassie's birthday we went to go re-new her licence and on the way back we went to 3 liquor stores. Here is her all excited at her first one:

And low and behold look what was next door, my two favorite store are next to each other:

I had a good week at school except for the lesson i taught. I was trying to teach exponents the 6th grade version and i didn't really know how or what i was doing so i talked really fast and got all jumbled. But whatever i get full credit anyways. I worked 2 nights at the calling program training new data people to replace me :(. I went to the first also meeting (the GSA of plymouth) where my friend tonia is the president! it was an okay meeting, i was a little late and there were not that many people there.

I hung out with Angela and watched some stupid gymnastics movie. Then i went and got ice cream with Cassie! The only thing that i didn't get to do while at school was go to a fabric store Lauren told me about. Hopefully i can fit it in next week.

So on my way back from school i stopped at old navy in tilton to use up the rest of my gift card and then some. I bought a cute red shirt a new pair of jeans and Flip Flops for sir Garrett. When i got to concord i couldn't help but stop at Joann Fabrics, i had coupons that were burning a hole in my Vera Bradley wallet. So here is what i got there:

A lot of things were on sale so i couldn't really use my coupons. I want to make a quilted pillow out of these fabrics. I have been eyeballing them for a while now, but they were on sale so i decided what the heck and bought some.

And i couldn't just go to joann's and not go to payless which was right next door. I was in there and there were these older women in there trying to show me shoes and they wanted me to try them on but the ones they picked out were sooo ugly. I think they thought i was 12. But i got some cute heels for student teaching because i am going into the 7th grade class and they are about as tall as me if not taller so i need to have some authority. I am going to wear them today and see how it works out. Here is a picture of my shoes and red shirt:

Oh how could i forget. My next door neighbor Blanch, moved out of her house into a nursing home, and we cleaned out her house and got to keep a lot of things. and this is one of the things i got to steal from her house:
it's from the 40's and all it needs is a new belt, and it will be ready to go. I can't wait to sew something on it. Maybe i will do my quilt!
So antrim Home and Harvest day's is coming up tomorrow and i have been busting ass trying to get a lot of stuff together Here is what my work place looks like:

yes, lap top next to me playing episodes of gossip girl, and a woodchuck as well, don't worry i only had one, not a good idea to get sloppy while sewing. Just something to keep me going!
Well Garrett comes home today so i will be busting butt until he gets here so wish me luck!

Student Teaching-the beginings

So...I am student teaching at South Meadow Middle School in the town where I went to high school. I am living at home for the semester to save myself loans, and my parents money. The math education program here at PSU, is different the all the other education programs here. We, as math majors, get to student teach in the fall semester and then come back for the spring semester to wrap up our year. I find this very nice because i get to start out at the school when the students start out so I'm not this strange person coming in half way through the year. The downfall to the Math ed program is that i have to take a class for the first three weeks of the semester, so I have to drive up to Plymouth and find someplace to crash for a few days. This part really stinks. I am very lucky to have a friend like Tonia who lets me crash on her floor and take over her room. I am very thankful for her.

The class on the other hand is very overwhelming. Every Tuesday the class runs 8-2, and the 7 of us have to teach a lesson to our peers, and get critiqued. And we have to dress in professional attire. On Monday and Wednesday the class runs from 8-12:30, and we have homework assignments, like making a unit plan, making a yearly plan, and doing a software review. it's a lot of work. Then i come home Wednesday, un-pack, and get ready for work at a restaurant 5-9, come home and sleep and go into the school (6th graders) and observe on Thursday and Friday.

And come Friday i go home and wait for Garrett to arrive and all is well again.

So that's whats been going on

Why I'm Starting This Blog

I decided I wanted to start a blog. Why? Well I love reading other peoples blogs and have been thinking about making my own. I finally decided to do so becasue I am a student teacher at Plymouth State University in Plymouth NH, and i have just started. I decided that I needed a place to vent about it, and so that when people ask me how student teaching is going, I can just say go read my blog.
I have also become a avid...well a crafter, mostly sewing, because of my boyfriend's sister Lauren, and I wanted to share my stuff with people, and properly give thanks to those who's patterns I have used, like Made By Rae and her beautifull buttercup bag.
So here it is, I hope you all enjoy reading about my life haha.

p.s. Tell your friends to follow!

peace, and love J-me
