Fabric covered Button earring tutorial!

You read it right I am going to try and do a Tutorial! I got this fabu idea to make fabric earrings and went searching on the Internet for a tutorial. All the ones that I found, were not exactly what I was looking for. Then I got the idea from a Magnet tutorial. Where they used buttons which you cover in fabric and then put a magnet on the back.

So with out further babbling here is my attempt at which to tell you how to make some

Materials needed:

Cover Button kit with tool (1/2" or 5/8" i wouldn't go any bigger)
Scraps of fabric
Scissors
Glue gun
Earring backings
a tool which will snip through metal

Step One:

Open your kit, and take a look at your buttons. On the back piece there will be a round hook, This is what you would use to sew the button onto something. This is what we need to clip off. So use your pliers, or snipping tool and clip this off of two backings. make sure all the pieces are out.

Step two:

On the back of the packaging your buttons come in, there will be a "pattern" , or a circle which you cut out and use as a guide to cut your fabric scraps. make sure that you choose what part of the fabric you want to be on the earring and center that in the circle.

Step Three:

Place the fabric over the tool. and push the top of the button into the tool and fabric.

Step Four:
Fold in the rest of the edges, and then place the backing on the fabric that has been folded over. Use the Blue "push" tool to firmly push the backing onto the front piece. Then pull out the button

Step five:

Use the glue gun to glue the earring backing onto your covered button. Wait to cool, and TA DA! you have a cut fabric earring! (or you can use super glue)

I hope you can understand this, as i don't have pictures for everything, If there are questions please feel free to post your question and i will do my best to help you out!!
These make great gifts! and are easy and fun to make!!

End of student teaching :-\

So Thursday Dec. 10th was my last day of student teaching. It was a sad but happy day. I was glad to be done with the 15 page teacher work sample, and my grades, and having that commitment to waking up and dragging butt to school every morning. It was sad because I have grown so close to a bunch of the kids and I really am going to miss those cute little faces. But i have promised to visit, and visit i will!

So i feel like this is going to be a really long post, with lots of fun pictures. Firstly I wanted to thank my two cooperating teachers for being so great and so helpful. They were really awesome and I will miss them too! So to show them how much it meant to me, I made them both a little fun package of all things made by jme. I knit them both scarves (they came out a little short) Made them each a "quilted" ornament, A fabric bookmark, and fabric/felt flowers! They both really enjoyed them, First is a picture of Sara's bundle of goodies she was the 7th grade teacher i was with. Second is a picture of Peggy's bundle, the 6th grade teacher i was with.

I found the bookmark pattern here. and the fabric flower patter here.
i love free patterns!
So the kids made me this huge we will miss you banner, and then i got some awesome gifts from my teachers!
They made me cards and a cake! it was awesome. My 7th graders gave the the Dr. Seuss book Oh the places you'll go. and they all signed it inside! I got a will tree angel. the Angel of learning, and a 40 dollar gift card to my favorite store in town the black swan! It was such a great day! I am going to miss those kids soo much!
Well I think that's all. At least for now!

Friday Sew and Tell

Hey everyone! So I have finished a few things and there are some things that i would also like to share with the sew and tell community!

Firstly I went Black Friday Shopping and went to Joann;s and got some 2.99 a yard fleece to make my Papa (grandfather) a no-sew blanket for him for when he is chillin on the couch "watching" bowling, and of course I mean sleeping! Its pretty huge it fits on Garrett's full size bed. It is really soft too! All you do is cut and tie!

Also I made this cute felted snow bird with my mother and one of my sisters the other day and it came out really cute! (by the way i notice none of these are actual sewing)

I'm also working on these Fabric Flowers tutorial found here, I'm not sure what I am going to do with them yet....(really i do, i just can't say!) This is just the start I still have to make more!

That's not the vase I will be using, its just the one that i found on top of the fridge. too cute huh?

Another thing: I received my ornaments from the ornament exchange! They are wooden, and beautiful! I don't have a tree to put them on yet but the will be there as soon as I do. Rita made them, and they are made out of a rare wood found in Africa, called blood wood, because the deep red color, and it changes over time!

So that's what I have!!! I hope you like it! I can't wait to see what everyone else is doing over at Sew-n-tell Friday!

P.S. I have one more week of student teaching!

Holiday fun

So I had such a great week last week! I had a teacher workshop on Monday, and then I had the rest of the week off from school! Tuesday I went with my mother to bring my sister to meet my aunt, and we did some shopping at AC more, for crafts she would like to do. Then i spent the rest of the night cutting and crafting. Wednesday morning till about 4:30 i spent crafting Christmas presents for everyone. I can't put pictures up because some of my family reads my blog. Then that night I had to go to work at the restaurant, and we were pretty busy. Thursday morning my mom dad and sister headed to Massachusetts, to have thanksgiving with my dad's parents and sister. I played Little Big planet on my sisters ps3 and i loved it! it is soo much fun. Then we ate and put up our tree. We have a tradition where we have a fake tree that goes up at my Nana's house. Every year that me and my four sisters have been born, we have gotten an ornament. When we were old enough to, we would head out to this wonderful store and pick out our own ornament for that year. We would get our names and the year put on the ornament and then they would go up on the tree. The deal is that when we have a family of our own, we will get all the ornaments. I took a picture of the tree and some fun ornaments to share with you

The tree consists of only Blue and Green lights as well. My awesome sparkly skate from i think 1997

My first ornament the baby booties! and a crazy gum drop ornament!

and a sweet Santa man!
I will have a nice array of ornaments for my first tree! I also can't wait to get my ornament in the mail from the Ornament exchange I participated in.
Then Friday at about 2am i headed out with my mom, younger sister, and best friend to Nashua for black Friday shopping! I really like to do this because it is an awesome experience, and they do have great deals. Everyone this year was so fun and funny everywhere we went, and we hit up a lot of stores. We arrived at Old Navy at about 3:30 am, went to 6 stores, and then our 7th and last stop was Walmart, and we arrived home at about 10:30. The time was really messing with my head. And then I slept forever!
Saturday Garrett and I attended a "friends" thanksgiving at our friends apartment. There were about 16 people there, and we all sat at a huge table and ate turkey and had fun. Garrett and I brought our homemade infused Pineapple Vodka, and it was a hit!!
It really was an awesome weekend, I hope everyone else had a great thanksgiving!

It's getting closer.....

Christmas is upon us. I am starting to freak out. I have so much to make. I have this full week off from school, well minus today. I plan on cranking out a bunch of things. Today I had a teacher workshop, and then I headed to concord, to go to two awesome Fabric stores, and then to the movies to see.....New Moon. yea I don't want to hear it ;).

Here is something I got done the other day that i have been working on for a while. It is a boxy pouch, a longer skinnier one. I quilted it, and it took me a while....b/c I kept putting it off. Well it is done now.

Here is what I bought at Peggy Anne's. Some beautiful Amy Butler fabric, I plan to make a buttercup bag out of it.

I fell in love with Lauren's Advent calender's fabric, that when I went to Golden Geese, I just had to get some Figgy Pudding for myself! I have a few ideas of what I will do with this fabric!

I also picked up a crazy fat quarter to go with my sister's tote bag I'm making her for x-mas, as well as some scraps that they sell for $.50 each! I thought it was quite a steal! some of the "scraps" were really big!

Well I have a lot of crafting ahead of me, hopefully I will get a big chunk of it done this week, as well as a big chunk of my huge paper due in 3 weeks! YIKES! wish me luck!

Friday Sew-n-tell

So Yesterday I did a lot, a lot lot of cutting. I cut out some things for Christmas presents, and I also FINISHED cutting out my fat quarters for my first ever quilt! I have been planing on making this quilt since the end of summer, and I have been slowly cutting a long. Oh before i continue i found the quilt and patter at an old quilt along here. so where was i....ah yes, slowly cutting. It is made up of 12 fat quarters for the blocks, and i had only cut 6 of them. It takes a long time for me to cut things. I was cutting two a week, and yesterday i decided i was going to cut the remaining 6. It took me a while, so i didn't get time to finish anything else. There are pictures below of the different blocks and colors. Now all i need to do is start sewing the blocks together. I hope it turns out okay. Its my first one ever so i will need lots of help!

Here are the blocks:

Block A

Block B

Block C

Block D

Block E

Block F

What do you think? I've also been working on something else, and It's almost done, but I wanted to get a post up. If i do finish it by the end of the day, I will place it on here later.

Hope you like it! Hop on over to Amy's Blog to see what other people have finished on this wonderfull Friday

Last Week of teaching!!

Hey guys. Guess what!?! This is my last week of teaching. Being the main teacher. Friday is the last day i have to do advisory, and lunch duty, and 9th block! Hurrah! I will probably still take charge sometimes and here and there but Friday I'm done. Thanksgiving week i have ALLL of it off. Well except for Monday because we have a workshop, but i probably don't have to go to it!

I have enjoyed my experience, I have grown as a person, and a teacher. I Still feel like i need to grow even more as a person in order to be a teacher full time. Maybe i will be a substitute, or something but I'm not planning on being a full time teacher in the near future. Maybe in the far future haha. I like teaching i Love the kids, I'm just not feeling ready. Isn't that what college, and student teaching was supposed to do for me? Well not as well as i thought it would.

So I'm graduating in May, I don't really have a plan of what I'm going to do next year at all starting in May. or August...ill give myself the summer. I do know i don't want to be working at rick and Diane's and only there, maybe on weekends. And i don't want a job like at McDonald's or Frameworks. Here is what I'm thinking and have been thinking for a while now. Bank, I'm going to look for a job at a bank, good pay, bonuses, benefits...and I NEED dental!! Ill have a steady income, pay bills, insurance, and maybe get my own place...naw ill wait for that until Garrett gets out of school...whenever that will be. OR i will try to get a job at an Architecture place, because i love Architecture, but there is only one place i know of in the area.

SO enough about my future, lets talk crafts!

So yesterday i was doing some crafting with felt making some ornaments before going to a Ball room/Latin dance class! (that was awesome!)

Here is what i had time to make.

Cute little felt snowmen! And underneath them you can see the Fabric i still have to cut for my quilt, which i will get to some time. Maybe the whole week i have off next week! Anyways I hope you like them!

Friday(the 13) sew-n-tell

So This week was a pretty busy/crazy one for me. I had parent teacher conferences after school on Monday and was at the school for 12 hours that day! I have been battling a cough and after i taught my 4 math classes on Tuesday my cooperating teacher told me to go home and get some rest. I was home at about 11:30 on Tuesday. So i slept, I then went to UNH to visit Garrett, (and Charlie & Lauren). But i couldn't drive through concord with out stopping at Joanns.

UNH was awesome, While i was there i worked on an Ornament for the Ornament Exchange I am participating in. I also got a lot of rest, and Visited Lauren and got to see her awesome tiny apartment and her craft station. Which was set up perfectly and i wanted to take a picture of it because she was in the middle of sewing something and she had it on her machine, and it just looked so nice.

anyways on the the sewing and telling. So Tuesday the 10th was my TWIN sister's birthday. They turned 24. WOW. So i bought my sister Kathleen a gift card, because she is hard to buy/make for. And i made my sister Christine and knitting needle holder. I found a tutorial here, and just kinda winged it by the directions. Here is how it turned out:

I used some fabric that has been laying around for a while a few fat quarters. I made the ties out of quilt binding i bought at Joann's.
Here is the inside:

It has a good set of pockets and the bottom ones are for rounds. I searching through my yarn and these were the needles i came up with. My sister has more, and i bought her a pair to go with it. I think she will like it. Its a crazy color combo but i think its awesome.

So that's my finish I hope you enjoy it!

Go check out all the other Friday finishes over at sew-n-tell

Have a great weekend!

Friday's sew-n-tell

Last Friday I tried to make the fabric necklace free pattern over on Amy Butler's website. I got so lost with the directions that I sent it to Garrett's sister Lauren, and she couldn't figure it out either. I just decided to omit the pictures and just try and read the words. In doing this it actually kinda worked.

It came out a lot shorter then I hoped for, I wanted to be able to wrap it around my big ol' head at least twice, but that was a bust. While I was making it I thought gee I'm wasting a lot of fabric, and then I was thinking I was supposed to cut two strips out of both and not just one. I will try this next time. I wore it to school the next day and all the kids loved it and the teachers did too! Yes it's Amy Butler fabric as well as some MODA. I like it.

Here is a picture of me rocking it:

It looks a lot better when its not on an old stained work shirt!
Its time to start working on homemade Christmas, I have a lot of ideas I just need to put them in motion! I hope you like it! I can't wait to see all the other Friday finishes over at Amy's blog

Ugh....

So lets just say I am ready for this semester of student teaching to be over. I'm done. Today was a Field trip to downtown . We went to the Library, the Historical Society, and the town's Museum. I thought it was going well, I was telling students not to be jumping off of things when we were walking, to be quiet and stay with their buddy. At our destinations I made sure they were not doing things they were not supposed to do, and was making sure they were doing what they were supposed to do. I got back the kids left and I was left with the cooperating teacher. She said she didn't really feel like I was "present" and that I didn't do things with out her prompting me, and blah blah I'm a bad teacher is what I heard come out of her mouth. So I guess I can't do anything right. Here I was thinking I was doing a pretty good job with not really knowing what we were doing on the Field trip, and never being on a Field trip from that perspective. The only thing I have trouble with is like harsh discipline. Which i told her, and i thought she would be pretty impressed. Yeah I'm supposed to be the "main" teacher right now, but i didn't plan this trip, i didn't know what was going on, so i thought it was apparent that she would be taking the "reins" on this one. Another thing happened and i got talked to and i didn't think it was a big deal but I guess i kid saying math is boring is a bad thing, hello its her opinion, she has the right to express it, not yelling it out but she has a right to her opinion.

So to make a long story short, I can't wait for it to be over. I love the kids I love teaching the content, i guess i just hate the "rules" and i guess i feel like i shouldn't be doing too much of the stuff that will impact them for the year, because I'm not going to be there for the whole year, but i guess in her eyes i should be doing everything. Whatever. I don't think I will be teaching AT ALL in my near future.

On another note, I did the Fabric Necklace found on Amy Butlers website, I'm not going to post pictures because i might have to use it tomorrow for Sew-n-tell because i don't know if I'm going to finish the other thing i have been working on. I guess you will just have to wait and see till tomorrow!

Sorry for my rant

Sew and Tell Friday!

I was going to make Amy Butler's fabric necklace free pattern found on her website, and I started to do so, but i got to step 2 and i was confused! So I e-mailed Lauren to ask her about it because i got lost, and I'm going to wait to here back from her. So instead I made these:
Its not really sew-n-tell, its more staple-n-tell. I had my wonderful boyfriend cut out 4 squares from wood and put a wall hanging thinggy on the back a few weeks ago, and i didn't get around to doing what i wanted to do with them until now! So good for me not getting the pattern!

This is where i hung them in my room, above my sewing machine from the 20's.

Now i just need to change the color of my walls i painted back in high school!

I hope you like!

Hop over to Amy's Blog, and check out everything else people completed this week!

Taking on the Full Load Tomorrow Yikes!

Hey Everyone! I hope your weekends were awesome! Mine was pretty cool. I got to see Lauren and Charlie which is always a pleasure. Lauren and I talked more about Homemade Christmas! which is approaching faster then you know! I went to a Halloween party and got to wear my costume and Garrett got to show his off too which I have been working on for a long time.

Here is me in mine:

I went as Kelly from the Disney Show Handy Manny, here is a picture of her:

And Garrett, sadly didn't go as Manny, but instead he went as ROD from Hot Rod:

I'm still not finished but once it is finished i will post another picture. It does look pretty awesome though!

So this week starting Monday, I will be taking on the Full load of classes at SMS, that means 4 Math classes, Advisory, Lunch and blk 9. OMG pray for me. The kids have been pretty good, in math class but in block 9 they get really rowdy. I am also taking over Ms. Cox's bigger 7th grade math class which i am a little nervous about but i will live through it. The weeks are going by faster which is good because i will only be teaching until the week before thanksgiving. We have Veterans day off which i will take to go see Garrett at UNH finally and then we have the full week of Thanksgiving off! yay! then i give it back and get to just help out for 2 weeks until i go back to Plymouth and finish up.

Typing it out it doesn't sound too bad, but my midterm is due at the end of this week, my professor is coming out to see me Wednesday, and i have to get started on the student teacher work sample 10 pager i have to do. AHHH so i am freaking out a little.

Welll i better get well rested for tomorrow! Wish me luck!!

Sew-n-tell friday...really late

Sew (hehe).... today is Friday still it is 11:18pm and i was reminded about sew-n-tell. I finished something yesterday for my Halloween costume! It's an apron, it is called construction distraction. I found it when I ventured into Peggy Anne's quilting store in Concord last weekend. I have been thinking about buying the pattern for a while when I saw it on her website here. I had decided that i was going to be Kelly from the Disney show Handy Manny. Yes i am 21 years old and my boyfriend and I love the show Handy Manny. Today i went and finished buying the stuff for my costume! So here is a picture of the apron I made:

I tied it around a lamp shade haha. So all the fabric is Amy Butler. the lining is a home dec weight fabric, and the pockets, and ties are just a regular cotton fabric. It is totally awesome and i really like how it came out. I could of chosen to do scallops on the bottom but the flat look went with the character so that is what i did. You can order the kits online and i think you can order just the pattern too. It is really sturdy and I like it a lot

This week I have also been working on Garrett's costume, but I am not aloud to post about that because it is supposed to be a secret, so you will all have to wait until after Halloween to see it!

One more picture of the apron:

Happy sewing!
