Darby Smart

Hello blogging world. Has anyone out there ever heard of Darby Smart? I came across it some how or another. It's a really cool place where you can sign up for a monthly subscription and they send you a box with a different craft in it every month!

I've been feeling out of the crafty loop so I needed something to kick start me back into it. It's hard because we having been living in our new apartment for about 3 months now and I still don't have a sewing space set up yet. Right now it consists of a white 4 foot fold out table with my cutting mat on it and Garrett's sewing machine on it.

Don't get me wrong I am excited to see the finished product that will be my sewing space but it's been hard waiting. I could still sew with what I have now but most of my sewing stuff is still at my parents because if I brought it here there would be no place to put it all.

So I decided to try out Darby Smart and do the monthly subscription. This way I knew there was something coming that has all the pieces I need for it in one space and I need to make sure I get it done before the next one arrives. They have other things on their website as well. They have lots of crafts already to buy that you can just buy the one time and don't have to sign up for the subscription. You should check out their website

So I signed up this month and got by first box last week. It was a kit to wood burn two bamboo cutting boards. It was a lot of fun and I cant wait to find out what will be in April's box!

Here is what the box looked like when i got it in the mail:

This is what it looked like when you open it up:

It came with a stencil and this was one of those stencils:

This is the second one I did. I just cut out a NH shape and traced it on the board:

Isn't that fun?

I took a trip to Quilted Threads with my mom this afternoon because they were having a big sale and picked up the Mini Hex N More ruler and the Mini Northern Lights pattern by Jaybird Quilts. I have the normal Hex N More ruler as well but couldn't resist the cuteness of the mini version! I hope to try this pattern soon!

Well thats all for now! See you again soon!

Why Hello There!

Hey everyone. If anyone is still out there.
It's been a while!! I want to try and get back into blogging. I haven't done it in a while.

I  plan on posting more later when I have more time.

Garrett and I have finally moved in together! The apartment is still coming along. We moved in January 1st. My sewing space is what really isn't done yet but Garrett has been working hard and making it the best it can be so i'm not complaining.

In the mean time here are a few winter pictures that I have taken recently

 The Cutest nephew ever!
I'm sick of winter now but it was pretty

Well I hope to have more posted soon!

Right Now...

How I’m feeling right now…
Overwhelmed-  with my new full time work schedule. I’m trying to get in the swing of things but its hard. I need to learn to go to sleep earlier
.
Excited- for making more money and being able to afford all my student loans! Also excited because I can see the end of this phase of my life with out Garrett. He SHOULD be done come October and we can start a new phase of our lives together! I have already been looking at apartments and actually found a perfect one in Bennington, but who knows if it will still be available come October.

Sad- that I don’t get to spend as much time with Cyril anymore. I see him in the morning and I get to see him when I come home for my lunch. I make sure I eat lunch at work so that when I go home I don’t have to waste time eating when I could be playing with him.

Exhausted- from not getting enough sleep and also from trying to balance and schedule everything out. I’m working sometimes 8.5 hour days and then come home and just want to relax. I have so much I need to do though like Sew for my markets, and keep up with cleaning and laundry and I've been trying to walk at least three times a week, and I get distracted doing other things that I don’t go for walks because I forget. I just need to balance everything out.

Upset- that I haven’t been keeping up with my blog because I really enjoy doing this and reading other blogs for inspiration.  I’m not going to set any goals for this because I don’t want to fail again. But I will say I am going to try and be more present here, and post more about what I’m making and just about life in general!

So thank you all who are still reading for stopping by!
Hope to talk again soon!!

I'll leave you with a little something sweet

Teyton Zander Dunn's Quilt

Hey Everyone!

My co-worker Sara had a baby in late January. His name is Teyton Zander! So cute. The theme for their nursery is woodland animals, so I went with the Oh Deer! line.

Too cute!!!

He is loving the quilt, and that makes me one proud quilter!!

The back is a wood grain print! Perfect!!

Burp Cloths

For my sister's baby shower I made her some burp cloths. i had seen a lot of tutorials for them using pre-fold cloth diapers. So I went to target and picked up a pack of 5. I made her some and my other friends that were expecting some. They were really simple to make and my sister loves them! She says that they are her favorite ones. They are really absorbent and she didn't even know they were cloth diapers!

She asked me to make a few for her friend that is expecting a boy. Her colors are gray and green. So I dug through my stash and found some fabric to make a few. I also made another one for my sister.

I need to thank my friend Miranda a lot for letting me use her sewing machine while mine was getting fixed. Without the help they wouldn't of been done in time. So THANK YOU MIRANDA!!

The one that has the blocks on it I kept for myself because that is a scrap of fabric from the back of my first quilt so it holds some sentimental meaning to me. So I put it in my hope chest haha.

Cyril's Quilt

Back on December 7th 2012, my sister had her son Cyril Seamus Myhaver. He is my first real nephew! I love him to death. At first they didn't want me to make him a quilt, but I was going to anyways. Then they saw a quilt that I made for my friends baby Cooper, and My sister's husband, Chris, said that he wanted me to make Cyril one. So it was a good thing I had already had one in mind! My sister and her husband are both Irish, and her husband is pretty proud of that fact, so I went with the Irish theme.
(Photo Credit) here is Cyril at 7 days young!

I had the top all finished the day that he was born but then I had to quilt it together. It took me longer then I had hoped but I think it was worth the wait. I hand quilted it because I like that look more and I feel like it means there was more love put into it. Christmas came so i was busy with that, and New years came next. But I got it done and I think he Loves it.

I hope it will be a blanket that he will use for a while and will drag around the house with him. I want it to be his baby blanket that my sister tells his girlfriends about when shes trying to embarrass him.

I just hope it gets lots of love and use :)

Do you think hes happy to have it?

 What a Cutie!

The back is an Irish Flag :)

I love giving out Baby Quilts. One more to go for now. My friend/coworker Sara had her baby yesterday 1/23/13 Teyton Zander, now time to embroider his name and finish that one!
